Magic Borax Granular

  • INTENDED USES:

This deoxidizing flux keeps metal clean during melting (gold, silver, etc.) and pouring. Can also be used for preparing melts for assaying.

Also used to glaze crucibles and the casting process. You will need to glaze your crucible with borax before you melt any metal in it. This ensures that your metal does not stick to the ceramic crucible. Mix with alcohol until the powder quits dissolving into alcohol and forms a thin paste. Brush on the crucible and let dry, repeat three to four times allowing it to dry each time. Once dry crucible will be protected, and metal will pour easily from the vessel.

  • USAGE INSTRUCTION:

Why to Use as a (Flux):

Used as a flux to prevent the oxides from building up while you’re soldering gold and silver. Using this product as a flux will allow for a better bond at the joint by preventing the oxides to build up.

    Why Use As A (Glaze):

Mix with denatured (or methyl) alcohol mix to be used as a barrier flux and glaze. This process protects sterling silver, brass, copper, nickel, bronze, gold, or silver-filled pieces from fire scale during soldering.
